First Thing You Should Do Before Investing In Custom Logo Design

Okay, so you just started a business and the stoke is full. On the top of your to-do list is to have a logo created to initiate identity, but you know there are several things you must do before investing in branding materials — which can leave you feeling overwhelmed and, uhh, less stoked. We understand that launching a business is no joke, so we wanted to help you out. Below you’ll find a checklist to run through before investing in custom logo design. Feel free to check out some of our logos (here).

Is the Name of Your Business Secured?

  1. Check a domain provider, such as GoDaddy, to ensure that a clean domain/URL (for example: yourbusinessesname.com) is available for your website in the near future.
  2. Do a Google Search of the potential name(s) of your business to see if/who is already using the name. Ideally, there will be very few, if any, exact search results. If your business is only serving a single geographical area, it’s far more critical that you make sure no other local businesses are using the same or similar name.
  3. Check social platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc., to see if the ‘@’ names are available or if there are any accounts/profiles with the same name as your business. Again, ideally, there will be little to no related search results. If you would like help with this, feel free to send us a message on social media or email!
  4. Once you finally settle on a name and it checks the above three boxes, it’s now a great time to double-check that the domain/URL is still available. Once you confirm that the domain/URL is available, go ahead and purchase it. Once purchased, you can now officially register your business with the state you currently reside in. Additionally, if you plan on using social media to promote your business, now would also be a great time to create those profiles and secure the ‘@’ names.
